Welcome to the Young Muslim Women’s Association (YMWA).

YMWA is an organisation that has been serving Muslim women since 2001, providing a safe, welcoming and supportive environment where women can connect, grow and strengthen their faith.

We aim to support the spiritual, social, intellectual and emotional wellbeing of Muslim women through a range of activities and programmes, including camps, retreats, sports days, discussion groups, workshops and social gatherings.

We strive to serve Muslim women from all backgrounds and walks of life, regardless of their culture, background, religious practices or level of Islamic knowledge.

Our story

The Young Muslim Women’s Association (YMWA), formerly known as the Auckland Muslim Girls Association, is a local organisation dedicated to serving Muslim women in the Auckland region.

YMWA was founded on 16 September 2001, following a workshop held at Ponsonby Masjid. The workshop provided an opportunity for young Muslim women to identify areas of concern within the Muslim community and highlighted the need for a local youth organisation that could represent, support and empower Muslim women.

Since then, YMWA has continued our Ramadan Qur’an reflections, providing opportunities for Muslim women to come together, build friendships, develop their knowledge and strengthen their connection to their faith and community.

Our mission

To support the social, intellectual, spiritual and emotional development of women according to the Qur’an and Sunnah.
